What is Bachelor of Physiotherapy?

Bachelor of Physiotherapy or BPT is an undergraduate programme that deals with the structure of the human body. The duration of this course is four years and once the duration of the programme is over, students are required to complete a six months internship. Physiotherapy is a kind of treatment that is carried through physical forces such as heat, electricity, mechanical pressure, and mechanical forces. Physical therapy is done in order to maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. Therapy helps to treat disorders without using drugs. Physiotherapists have a thorough understanding of the human anatomy and the intricacies of bones, muscles and nerves.

BPT full form is of Bachelor of Physiotherapy. BPT is a four-year undergraduate program. Candidates eyeing a career in as Physio can take the BPT course. The course teaches physical movement, post-fracture maneuvers, injury, or chronic pain, hip pains etc.

BPT Specializations

While pursuing the Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, candidates will be required to choose a specialization in which they wish to gain more knowledge. The following are some of the BPT specializations:

Orthopedic Physiotherapy A knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathology of skeleton and soft tissues covers orthopedic physiotherapy. Orthopedics are concerned with the management of the disorders related to the musculoskeletal system. Some of the common problems that are treated by Orthopedics include back and neck pain, hip fracture, osteoporosis, arthritis, and bursitis.

Neurological PhysiotherapyIt is a specialization which is associated with the treatment of people who have problems with movement and other functions due to dysfunctioning within the body’s nervous and neuromuscular system. Any damage caused to the central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord leads to problems in movement and other body functions. Some of the neurological conditions that require physiotherapy are spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, and problems in balancing.

Pediatrics PhysiotherapyIt is a specialization that deals with the development of a baby, particularly in the development of a movement. Paediatricians work towards improving the quality of life of children with neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy and autism.

Geriatrics Physiotherapy This specialization deals with the disorders in older adults. Disorders such as osteoporosis, and arthritis in the elderly are treated by a physiotherapist who has specialized in this field.
